What does a family session with Annie look like?

Hello! I am your neighbourhood Vancouver family photographer. A family photo session is an experience that you should enjoy. If you’re worried about how the kids will behave, you will look anxious in your photos. Here is what a session with me looks like.

Once you book a date and pay your deposit, I will send over a questionnaire that helps me get to know your family a little bit. Tell me about your kids, what your family likes to do together, what makes you laugh. I will provide a wardrobe guide to help plan your outfits. I will also have some FAQ on how to prepare your kiddos.

A family session with Annie looks like:

We meet on location, then we will walk towards our spots. The first 15 minutes some kids may be shy, but some are the happiest. We’ll start off with some photos of everyone together, lots of hugs and cuddles standing up. Once the kiddos are feeling more comfortable, we move to another spot. This is a great time to explore the nature around us. We’ll get the kids to run around the fields, skip some rocks, play a game of tag. Once we are settled, I’ve got a blanket we can sit on for some cozy snuggles or tickle fights! An hour goes by pretty quickly when we are on the move! Our goal is to keep your relaxed, just keep being silly.

My kids are shy and timid!

Some kids are shy, and some adults too! I won’t ask kids to say cheese or force them to smiles. If they are shy, I take my time to engage with them. Ask them questions about their favourite tv shows, ice cream flavours, and what game they want to play. Play is the key to getting kids to open up! Parents can help by being playful and don’t pressure the kids to smile.

How do you deal with crying kids?

This will happen! Best thing to do is to comfort your child. These do make for some precious memories. I always ask families to bring some dry snacks and water, in case we have hangry toddlers on our hands.

What if my kids don’t cooperate?

Family sessions with me are not about looking perfect and smiling. I want to offer you a collection of images that really captures your family. Your family dynamic comes through during play. Your laughters comes through during silly games. I want to show you what your family looks like when you are running together, snuggling on a field, and telling funny jokes. Family photos are about having fun with your family.

Will you play with my kids during the session?

I try my best to play! I have a few tricks up my sleeve, but ultimately some kids may not respond to my old games. Parents need to participate, you know your children the best, so let me know what I can do to help them open up!
