Maternity wardrobe inspiration is here!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! So you’ve decided to take some maternity photos to celebrate your path to motherhood. Let’s start planning your maternity wardrobe.

What should you wear to your maternity photo session? Something that you feel comfortable is always a good place to start!

If you are planning to shop for a new outfit, here are some ideas to keep in mind for your maternity wardrobe!

Flowy or fitted?

Some mamas like to flaunt their belly! Fitted tops and dresses are a great way to accentuate the bump if you are not showing too much. Go flowy if you want a more boho, romantic feel. Both styles will photograph beautifully.

Prints or solids?

This is a personal choice, keep in mind that small subtle patterns photograph better than large bold patterns. If you choose a solid colour, consider layering different textures like a cardigan. Choosing an outfit that has some interesting textural design will give solid colour outfits more dynamic.

Do I have to buy from the maternity section?

It feels like a waste to buy outfits that you can only wear for a few months. Fret not, there are plenty of maternity friendly outfits that can transition into staple pieces that you can wear beyond pregnancy! You’ll want to look for tops or dresses that have an empire waist design. They will be fitted at the bodice, and drapes out below the bustline. This will give plenty of room for your baby bump. Roomy outfits like T-shirt dresses, or stretchy materials that can accommodate your growing body will be outfits that you can still wear after labour.

My partner’s outfit?

Try to wear complimentary colours, matching outfits tends to become dated quickly. If you are wearing a colourful dress, choose a neutral colour for your partner. A casual dress shirt with a pair of slacks is fail proof.
