What does family photos look like at White Rock Beach?

April 21, 2022
Family + Newborn Photo Session

How about beach family photos? Does your family love hanging out at the beach? Watching the waves, playing with the sand, and spending quality time enjoying mother nature? Then a beach location might be perfect for your next family photoshoot! If you live in Surrey, we are lucky to be surrounded by several beach choices for family photos!

A few spots for your considerations are: White Rock Beach, Crescent Beach, Blackie Spit Park, and Mud Bay Park. Each are slightly different in their landscape but all are gorgeous and perfect for family photos.

White Rock Beach isn’t typically my top choice because of the crowds near the pier, but if we come on a weekday evening, and slightly further away from the pier, it can be a serene location! A few tips and things to expect when booking a beach session.

Beach family photos can get windy!

Since we are by the water, sometimes we can experience high winds. So expect lots of flowy hair photos, but also dress appropriately if the weather is on the chilly side. Summer evenings are usually warm and spring/fall evenings expect chilly winds! I recommend bringing a light cardigan or neutral blanket to wrap around little ones if they don’t like the cold. The wind gives us a perfect opportunity to cuddle for warmth!

Wear beach appropriate shoes

If we are at the beach, we will be walking on rocks, mud, sand, and sometimes even into the water! So save the fancy heels for a different location, and opt for low heeled sandals or boots! For kids, you can choose simple flats and canvas slip-ons. Dad can leave the sneakers at home, and go for a pair of loafers or casual shoes. Avoid any hiking or casual sandals, or crocs!

Expect to get wet or messy at the beach!

When we are nearing the end of our session, I’ll let the kids play with rocks, sand, and water. This is when many of the playful moments occur. A perfect end to our family session, but don’t stress too much if their outfits get dirty, or someone gets sand all over their face. Getting messy is part of life, and I’d love to capture some funny and silly images for you to treasure.
